Cambridge English: Financial, also known as the International Certificate in Financial English (ICFE), is an examination set at levels B2 and C1 of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages. ICFE is equivalent in level to the world famous Cambridge First Certificate in English and Certificate in Advanced English, and assesses language skills in a financial context. This certificate can be used as proof of the ability in English necessary to work in an international finance context or to follow a course of accountancy or finance study at university level.

Please note that places are limited – registration is strictly subject to availability.

The speaking and writing tests may be on different dates. Please check the application form and make sure that you are available for the entire duration of the speaking test window. You will receive a schedule with your speaking appointment approximately three weeks before the examination.

Why take this exam?

High-level language qualification for finance professionals

The ICFE exam has been developed by University of Cambridge ESOL Examinations in collaboration with ACCA (the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants). The combination has brought together worldwide leaders in English language assessment and in professional accountancy to create a unique financial English qualification. Exam format

There are four parts to the Cambridge English: Financial (ICFE) exam. Each contributes 25% of the total marks available:

Reading: 1 hour 15 minutes, six parts

Shows you can deal confidently with a wide variety of finance-related texts.

Writing: 1 hour 15 minutes, two parts

Requires you to be able to write a letter in response to a letter that is provided, and a report covering specific points.

Listening: about 40 minutes, four parts

Requires you to be able to follow and understand a range of spoken materials including interviews, discussions, telephone conversations and messages.

Speaking: 16 minutes per pair of candidates, four parts

Tests your ability to communicate effectively in face-to-face business situations. The speaking exam is a face-to-face test with one or two other candidates and two assessors.
