Paul Docherty

Paul took up the post of Director British Council France in April 2013.

Prior to this he was Director UK 2012, Director British Council Scotland, and Director British Council Italy. Paul has also worked for the British Council in Helsinki, Moscow, Prague and London. After graduating from Strathclyde University he taught English Language and Literature in Spain and then at Moscow State University.

After completing his M.Litt in Linguistics he joined the British Council. Paul has wide ranging interests in all aspects of education and the arts, especially music. He has served on a variety of governing and advisory boards for cultural and educational institutions and educational charities both in the UK and abroad. He has a keen interest in cultural diplomacy, cultural relations and cultural policy and has delivered guest lectures on these topics at various universities and institutions all over the world. He became a Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts in 2008.
