The British Council is delighted to be associated with this exhibition devoted to a major artist on the international art scene. For almost fifty years, Hamish Fulton, a walking artist, has been developing a committed body of work that addresses the major environmental issues and challenges facing our societies today.
For his project at the Frac, the first major exhibition devoted to this artist in France for over 10 years, Hamish Fulton undertook a 21-day walk, from June 1 to 21, 2022, in the Mercantour National Park, east of Digne-les-Bains in the Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur region, starting from Barcelonnette.
The works resulting from this walk are exhibited alongside a variety of works from walks completed between 1969 and 2023, including large-format murals, small framed paintings, drawings, limited edition prints and what the artist calls "walking texts on wood".
