Who we are
Our English and School Education team work with the French government as well as with local education authorities and a range of partners to support the teaching, learning and assessment of English and of subjects taught through English.
Our research and our projects emphasise how multilingualism creates opportunities for young people and adults to engage in a globalised world, with English providing access to academic, professional and social opportunities.
Our France team also works closely with international organisations based in France to support the British Council’s wider work around the world in the fields of teacher development, foundational learning, displacement, and girls’ education.
Our approach

Research: We conduct and share research that informs policy and good practice in multilingual education and in the teaching, learning and assessment of English.
Policy engagement: We bring together stakeholders and experts to share and discuss education policies and practices.
Advice and support: We advise education stakeholders at local and national levels on the teaching, learning and assessment of English and of subjects taught through English.
Resources and training: We offer open-access resources and training for teachers and teacher educators to develop their professional practices.

We also collaborate with leading experts in UK and international English language and school education.
