The Violet Hour is a dance work by Colette Sadler that addresses themes connected to climate change and the influence of plants on the human imagination as a means to raise awareness of both. These themes are both relevant and a matter of urgency for all, with particular resonance and urgency for younger generations of artists and audiences. Colette Sadler will spend a week-long residency at Festival De Marseille with Marseille-based artist Samir Kennedy and performer/artist Leah Marojevic, researching choreographic material for The Violet Hour. During the residency, dance and choreographic workshops will be offered to emerging dancers in Marseille and the surrounding regions as a way to bolster their ongoing dance practice. "The Violet Hour" is a Dance International Glasgow TRAMWAY 2025 commission.
On the final day of the residency, a public open studio event for an invited audience supported by Festival De Marseille will take place. The sharing will include a presentation of Sadlers 2021 work "ARK 1". Invitations for this event will be managed by Festival De Marseille. The goal is to enhance awareness and establish a broader network for Sadler's work within Marseille and the surrounding region, as well as on a national and international scale.
The Violet Hour is produced by Feral Arts. The British Council is supporting this initiative.
