This scholarship of a value of 10,000 euros is open to candidates wishing to undertake legal studies in the UK.

Herbert Smith Freehills is offering one scholarship to French students wishing to study law full-time at Masters level (LLM) in a UK university for the academic year 2027-2028 in the fields listed below: 

  • Business law
  • International banking and finance law
  • Intellectual property/technology, media and communications law
  • Labour law
  • Energy and infrastructure
  • Litigation and international arbitration
  • Tax law
  • Property law
  • European or International law

The scholarship can help to fund an LLM programme for a period of 12 months maximum in a British university. The scholarship is awarded for one year only and is not renewable, and must concern studies in the disciplines listed above.

To be eligible, you must meet all of the following criteria:

  • As this is a Franco-British scholarship, you must either be a French national or have completed higher education in France up to Bac+3 or Bac+4.
  • You must hold, or be in the process of obtaining, at least a Bac+3 qualification and intend to pursue a Master’s degree in the UK (including as part of a dual-degree programme incorporating an LLM) in one of the legal fields listed above.
  • You must demonstrate an excellent command of English. Most UK universities require a minimum IELTS score of 6.5 for postgraduate study.
  • You must intend to undertake one full academic year of full-time study in the UK and have received acknowledgement of at least one application from a UK university. A conditional offer of admission is preferred.
  • You must be able to demonstrate outstanding academic achievement and show the ambition and potential to become an influential leader in your chosen field.
