We understand that getting your results is important to you. We know you want them quickly, but it is equally important that we give you the score that correctly reflects your performance.

You'll be able to preview your results online on the 13th day after the completion of your test.

Your IELTS results (known as the Test Report Form ‘TRF’) will also be posted to you on the 13th day after the completion of your test. You will receive one copy of your TRF.

You will not be able to obtain your results over the phone, by email or by fax.

The TRF is valid for two years after the exam date.

IELTS is a grading system which provides results for all levels of English. You will be given a score from 0-9 for each part of the test which reflects your proficiency of English.

Your Test Report Form will show a score for each of the four skills (listening, reading, writing and speaking), as well as an overall band score. Half band scores may be awarded to indicate a strong performance within a particular band.

Find out how to understand your IELTS score, and how it relates to the Council of Europe’s Common European Framework of Reference (CEFR):

Enquiry on Results Service (EoR)

If you would like your score to be reviewed, you can use our Enquiry on Results service within six weeks of the test date. You can choose which sections of the test you want to have reviewed.

To apply for the EOR service, please complete the Enquiry on Results Form and send your original TRF and a payment of 90 euros to the British Council. The payment can be made by cheque, bank transfer or by card.

The EOR fee will be refunded should your overall score change as a result of the review. The Enquiry on Results Service can take up to 4 weeks to complete. Please contact us by email for further information.

All documentation and payment for the IELTS EOR must be sent to the British Council Paris office. Any documentation sent to other addresses or locations will not be processed.

You can take the test as many times as you need. However, IELTS research indicates that to significantly improve your score taking further English language tuition is recommended.
